When drawing, I like to switch between pencil and ink. I love the depth and subtlety that can be achieved with pencil, while ink provides a starker outline that can be combined with a wash of ink or a hint of watercolour.

Pencil Drawing Crown and Fleur de Lis

Crown and Fleur de Lis

This pencil drawing was influenced by the columns in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge. The image of the crown was used to produce a series of linocut prints and also etched onto silver in the Crowns jewellery collection.

Ruined window

Ruined window – ink and watercolour

This window is part of Sudeley Castle and I wanted to capture the way this section of window still stands tall, while the rest of the building has fallen.

A section of this drawing has been created as a linited edition of linocut prints.

Glastonbury Tor

Glastonbury Tor – Ink and watercolour

This drawing captures a very short moment in time. Driving, with Glastonbury Tor in the distance we braked hard to photograph the shafts of light streaming down onto the Tor. The image appears too good to be true, but it really was a moment!

Measures 278mm x 164mm

My imagination and ruined doorways…. what happened inside? Where does the dark doorway go? Who went there?……

Castell y Bere

Castell y Bere – Ink and watercolour

I love castles and this one is a favourite, sitting in the North Wales landscape. It was built by Llewelyn the Great in the 1220s – a great life to read up about!
