Having spent most of my career leading mathematics in primary education, it seems natural to make that connection with my jewellery designs. The Fibonacci sequence is something the pupils and I used to enjoy exploring in class so it appears here too!
Fibonacci was a 12th-13th Century mathematician born in Pisa around 1170 AD, who introduced the sequence in his book in 1202. The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical sequence in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. It has close links to The Golden Ratio and appears in nature in many forms, including the family tree of bees!
In these bangles, pendants and rings, I represent a section of the sequence in the spacing between the gemstones. The space between each subsequent gemstone increases according to the sequence. The first 9 numbers of the sequence are: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21
